Driving A Manual in Driving Test?!?

I own a manual transmission car, and the person who taught me is not so fresh with details on passing a G2 drivers test. Where are your hands technically supposed to be? Should one hand be on the gear at all times? Any other tricks?

Any help would be so appreciated!!
