Drivers test...Parallel parking?

my tester was nice and had me parallel park with an empty space behind me so there wasnt as much pressure. When you get to 45 degrees, cut the wheel to the left and ease slowly into the space. Put your parking brake on when you turn off the car.
 
My parallel parking is never consistent. Sometimes i'm right on the curb and others i'm a foot away. I'm taking my drivers test tomorrow and need to know any tips on how to parallel park perfect every time.(perfect being closer to the curb than 12 in)

Also during the test when i'm in the parking spot do i use my parking brake?

I already took my drivers test and failed on parallel parking. My instructor told me to turn to 45 degrees, touch the curb, pull forward, then turn wheel all the way left. Does anyone else use this?
