Drivers License Photo in NYS?

I got my learners permit when I was 16 in... hmm, maybe 1992. They took my photo and a few weeks late, my permit arrived and I got my license a couple of years later.

I have gone down to renew my license a month or so before it's been due ever since I got it. Each and every time I go, I get a photo taken. Each and every time I get the new license, the photo of me from when I was 16 appears on it instead of the new photo.

I'll be 33 in a few weeks and need to renew my license before then. The photo on my license has caused people to doubt that the license is mine on a few occasions. Every time I get the new license with the old photo, I've called the DMV or gone down and tried to get it corrected but have never received a license with an updated photo.

To make matters worse, there's a fairly long gap between when you're issued a license and when you have to renew it in NY now.

Since I have a 90 minute drive to work and a 90 minute drive home these days, I'm now nervous that I'll once again get a license with that same old picture instead of the new one I take. While I haven't been stopped in years, I'm worried about it being a problem if I do.

Can any cops on here tell me if this sort of thing, outdated photo's, are common and what I can do if the new copy of my license that they send me has the old picture? Or if the systems changed enough so that this sort of thing doesn't happen anymore?

For the record, I'm sure I've had them take my picture each time and have retained record of the issue over the years in case it ever became a problem.

Thanks in advance!
