Drinkers of cheap beer

There's a brewery in Denver called New Belgium that makes some pretty awesome beers. (They make Fat Tire, too.) My husband and his shop went on a beer tasting tour down there, they said it was pretty much amazing.

Myself, if I'm going to drink a beer, Pabst is about the only thing I can stomach.
 
The Beer's I truly enjoy are not sold outside of my Home sate. So when I'm away from home (90% of the fucking year) I drink Schlitz and Coors. Yieling (sp?) is my brand when I'm at a bar.
 
Jung, you'd be amazed and what kind of bud you can get in Idaho. We grow shit tons of good stuff here in the mountains it turns out. It might be in our top 5 cash crops now. ;)

Sierra Nevada isn't actually a very good beer brewer. Neither is New Belgium. Fat tire is a terrible beer that got popular... much like Alaskan Amber. They became trendy because people don't know what those styles of beers should be like.

Truly good beers come from breweries like Deshutes, Anchor, Stone, Sockeye, Pike, Laughing Dog, Hales and Rogue. I could keep going but really, those are some of the better breweries. Sierra Nevada and New Belgium make mediocre beers but they have great sales teams and have a lot of hype going for them. People tend to fall for the hype without understanding that the beer they're drinking is really closer to the American Macro brews than anything else.

That said, people can drink what they want to drink. Pandie is bitching that her family didn't drink her preferred beer. I kinda fail to see the problem, more for her right?

In another light, you do have to give credit to Bud, Miller et. all for making a VERY consistent product. Consistency is brewing is hard to do yet a Budweiser will taste exactly like a Budwesier no matter which brewery is was made in or when it was brewed. Their product may taste like hell in a bottle but you KNOW that it will taste like hell in a bottle.
 
See you miss the point of beer. Beer that is brewed with flavor is how it was meant to be. Light ale, brown ale, blonds, honey wheat, these are all old world recipes. Throughout the ages man has tweaked these brews to perfection. There is nothing yuppie about it. For that matter it's companies like Budweiser and Coors who have bastardized the pilsner.

Drink what you want, but just because something has a refined flavor doesn't make it snooty. It's just simply better value for money. I would rather spend more on a variety of beer that is crafted in small controlled batches, than have a lifetime supply of free mass produced hops water.
 
If it's not a Corona or a Heiniken, I'll drink it.

My favorites, however, are Icehouse, Dos Equis, Bud Ice, Spatan, Red Stripe, and some scotch ale I had at BEERFEST...I think it was MacGregor's Scotch Ale. I was drunk so I don't really remember.

Yeah, I can see how being an alcoholic would get expensive. ( :tongue: ) My approach to drinking is quality over quantity. I can get drunk on any old shit if I want to, and do so a hell of a lot cheaper with liquor, but choose not to because I like enjoying my beer.

I fail to see how beer made by traditional means has anything to do with yuppies either.

I don't buy macro swill for the same reason I only buy headies when I buy pot. I appreciate quality.

Also, I drink my tea and (chicory) coffee without sugar. :)Sierra makes some pretty good American pale ales. BA and everyone I know who drinks APAs agrees. You're certainly welcome to your opinion, although I'm not sure many APA fans would agree. (Personally, I'd put the Full Sail offering over their normal Pale, but it's still a pretty good example of an APA.)

I'd agree that Fat Tire isn't all that great, but it's relatively easy to find and still better than what he's drinking. I'm not a huge fan of Abita's amber either for that matter (it's a lager), but suggested it for the same reason.
 
My quasi-rule is: if it has a twist off, it's shit. Jung knows what he's talking about and he's said it all. Only fat Americans drink beer to get drunk. I think it's meant to enjoy. All of that brewing work just to be recycled through American trailer trash? Not hardley. :p
 
They live in Texas. Everyone here apparently hates change. I'd suggest that you get them to begin drinking local beer. Sometimes it is better and yet it can be cheaper than the mass produced stuff.



That's an over-generalization. Plenty of people drink to get drunk. The difference is that in other countries the culture towards drinking also includes a larger, more notable sector of people that enjoy alcoholic beverages a variety of reasons.
 
I agree fully , Lived in Austin, TX for a while and drank Lone star non stop really wished we had it up here in seattle. It's cheap and gets you wrecked. What's not to love.



I do not agree with you. I believe that any substance that alters your perception is technically a drug whether legal or not. Under the definition of drug (plural drugs) A chemical or substance, not necessarily for medical purposes, which alters the way the mind or body works.
So based on your logic if i were to buy an 8-ball of coke i should snort it slowly and enjoy it with the absence of any inclination to feel the end effects but instead just appreciate the time it took columbians to process it and mules to smuggle it into the states?..well then why bother at all. If your not in it for the results then does that not make you even dumber than the fat american trailer park population downing beer by the keg?
