Dream Theater--Greatest Metal Band of this Era

LaBrie is good..and when he wants to be. Like the Oh Holy Night I have by him is pretty good until he goes WAYY up high, then he loses control basically.

But LaBrie's range is not 4 octaves, and a lot of guys have more than him. To have a range over 3.5 octaves when you're a grown man, you have to be able to sing low too. I've never heard LaBrie go very low.

Well I have sheet music that begs to differ. I forget what the lowest and highest notes he can sing are, but it is clearly nearly 4 octaves. And that's just with him singing as an artist (DT/solo/Ayreon, etc); I've heard he can sing much higher and lower when he wanted to back in the day,

LaBrie doesn't go out of control when he sings high most of the time, just see "Learning to Live" or "Another Day" for great examples. Shortly after Awake he damaged his voice box and consequently his range is now much lower, I think around 3 octaves. I guess I'm talking about when he was in his prime. Because I still see his work in I&W and Awake to be significant when talking about the greatest singers ever.

His figures were both wrong and erabarrassing. But nice joke.

I know you're joking because boo boo said "LaBrie doesn't even come CLOSE to those singers in range." Then later on he said LaBrie's octave range is 2.75....and even though it's wrong I could have sworn that that was CLOSE to 3.

Thanks boo boo for simplifying my post; alas we agree on something!
Pigs do fly after all huh.

It wasnt actually anything to do with your comment about Dream Theatre, it was the comment that if a band makes music you dont like then its automatically 'sh1t' which to me is wrong.

By the way, I wish i could still say I had never heard Dream Theatre before... :shycouch: but what's worse...I found a free cd I got in Classic Rock magazine and it has a
Dream Theatre track call 'Constant Motion' & they sound like theyre ripping metallica off big time, infact theres quite a few banRAB on this cd that sound like theyre ripping off metallica, theres also another **** band which I must declare as being 'Dragonforce'- the sound of constant drum machines and really crap vocals and cheesy choruses.
Only Iron Maiden can do this & get away with it (IMO).

Trivium are another guilty meraber of the 'Metallica Imitators/Rip Off Merchants' club.

Other **** banRAB on this record include Oli Brown who sounRAB like some kind of ****ing James Morrisson meets ZZ Top **** up, The Erotics- really cheesy shallow bubble rock reminiscent of the likes of Twisted Sister and co,

Practically everything on this album sucks apart from Megadeth's new track 'Sleepwalker' & Joe Bonamassa's Woke Up Dreaming(Live)'.
Another one that deserves a mention is John 5 with a track called 'SounRAB Of Impalement'- reminRAB me of Joe Satriani.

Also there is another 'sh1tebag' who sounRAB like a complete rip off of Ian Gillan called Richie Kotzen.

I cant believe I not only have this cd, but to have so much crap and **** all on one disc can only warrant a suitable snap in half.
At least I didnt pay for it, wouldnt have bought compilations anyway.

Anyway for anyone who is wondering what the hell this mystery cd is heres a link with all the tracklisting from it (on the right hand side): Guitarmageddon! by Various Artists - Books / Magazines - Classic Rock : Reviews and Ratings - Rate Your Music

Yeah you get the just of it, its more about the technicality, I mean if theres a **** band that are **** players as well such as Sex Pistols for instance then fair enough. :tramp:

And besides, Hendrix already pointed out that octave range dosent make you more talented a singer.

Unless you think Captain Beefheart is better than Bruce Dickinson of course. :)

Not true, King Crimson rarely used KeyboarRAB... And they usually stuck to just mellotron and a little moog.

And they didnt somewhat establish it, they DID establish it, they're the two most influencial keyboard players in prog, and im sure Rudess has some very positive things to say about both.

And keyboarRAB ARE a lead instrument for some banRAB, especially ELP and Yes... We also cant forget The Doors and the great Ray Manzarek.

Thankfully he's perma banned.

You should have been there that day. There was much rejoicing, there were fauns playing flutes, ewoks dancing, there was unicorns and rainbows.

Which is why range wasn't my only criteria...

I reckon Mercury is good but my personal preference is for LaBrie. But as skill's concerned, if you can show me an example where Mercury tops LaBrie's work in "Another Day" then I will reconsider.

Snap!

But yeah Dream theater are near the top of greatest banRAB ever in my view i mean some folk might think they are a bit dated and stuff but so **** em! it sounRAB friggin ace... the talent in that band is mind blowing and surely anyone who knows what good music is should surely be able to appreiate this

I don't quite get your meaning... masturbation?! All I know is, I repect every aspect of the band, and I can't figure out why people have an animosity for them... It doesn't make sense to me.

Dream Theater are talented, but mindblowingly so? Sorry pal, but I could name a dozen other progressive metal banRAB that wipe the floor with 'em on that particular attribute.

Seriously now, how about you and all the other ignorant douchebags who don't know jack about half the banRAB out there do yourselves a favor and go listen to groups like Maudlin of the Well, Pain of Salvation, Cynic, etc. before jumping on the "DT are so awesomez lulz" bandwagon, because it's groups like Dream Theater that ruin the images of banRAB out there who actually know what the fuck they're doing.
