Dream Theater--Greatest Metal Band of this Era

NO THEY WERE NOT....TRY A LITTLE FUCKING RESEARCH YOU IGNORANT SON OF A BITCH!!!

HOLY FUCKING MOTHER OF GOD!!!!.... HOW DENSE CAN YOU GET????????

I seriously cant keep my cool with you anymore.... I wish you would just die already, or leave Music Banter, both would be nice.

Most of those singers have at least a 3 octave range...And while some have around the same range as LaBrie (Bruce) they have better control and tone, making them more versatile and capable singers.

Thats right motherfucker, "roflroflrofl"....You can do that all day can you?...YOU LOSE!!!

Or YOU WOOSE as you so obnoxiously like to put it.

You would think that with all of that knowledge in theory those Dream Theater boys could make some decent music, oh well...

Have you even heard the whole goddamn thing or just the single version?...Which is just the second part of the 1st impression, Emersons skill really shines on the 2nd and 3rd impressions, come on know.

You havent heard much ELP, or else you would know better.

You also need to check out some of Wakemans solo stuff, as dull as the actual music may be, his skills on the keys are a unavoidable highlight, i can tell you with all of my heart, he is better than Rudess.

Only these musicians dont talk out of their ass and when they say something, they prove it.

Well its great to know that your tastes have evolved to appreciate the superior likes of Dream Theater and Dragonforce.

How were you able to measure his range?

And i doubt whoever said that is correct, musicians have a tendacy to make stuff up about themselves.

As someone who appreciates most genres i'd have to agree that Dream Theater are amazing musicians ... Mike Portnoy is one of my favourite drummers, John Myung is still my favourite bassist yet they are far from the best METAL band ever ...

They are calculated musicians, brilliant yes but that degree of brilliance leaRAB to a sense of despondence when listening to their music .... that and i never liked the vocalist

I think that anyone who truly understanRAB music would appreciate their technicality but would also understand that being as technical as hell is not all that ... sometimes simpler is better - a concept Dream Theatre never has adopted and one that possibly has cost them dearly ...

lol, I see what your saying, but I agree with Don. Dream Theater's albums all sound very different, so to be able to judge, to do need to hear more than one, although this is probably not the case with most banRAB.
I'm a big fan and there's some DT albums I don't like very much.

True but you still need to know what your doing to a certain extent, also usually the two go hand in hand i.e. good compositions are usually a result of good understanding of an instrument or at least the music that emulates from it.

KeyboarRAB have never been a lead instrument. Wakeman and Emerson helped establish a role somewhat in prog rock, but you can't really be called prog without a keyboard player I guess.

Ergh the title of this thread is just asking for trouble. They're a good band...with pro's and con's to them. I don't think they're quite substantial enough to have that title.

I mean that on a personal and subjective level of course.

But I dunno, there's just something about the way he sings where that assh*le vibe comes through. It's not as much of a problem with The Smiths, they were good. But his solo stuff is really horrendous IMO.

As much as I love Meat is Murder the album, I also think the title track is the worst song anyone has ever written. Ever.
