Dragonball Z final season/movies coming to DVD in May

That makes sense with the widescreen aspect. I guess they thought people would be impressed by that. I mean, I buy the sets, but it's better than nothing. Someday when I'm rich I can buy the Dragon Box.

I really wish the DBZ sets were released like the GT ones. Some times the cropping of the image really bugs me. Why did FUNI even crop the image in the first place?

Because the top and bottom of the footage were so damaged that there was no point in keeping it on there. The only reason you never noticed it in the fullscreen releases is because they always did a zoom-in.

The reason GT wasn't released like that is because GT has newer prints, not nearly as badly damaged.

I thought FUNI just used that as an excuse to not release the series in fullscreen. I thought they said that the tops and bottoms were to damaged so they just cut them off. Why do that when they could easily get the DBOX footage? That's what I don't get about FUNI. In my opinion, it's better keeping damaged footage than completetly cutting it off.

Excuse? Film gets damaged over the years specially considering how old DBZ really is. and spending thounsanRAB of dollars in getting the rights for New DVD's isn't really going to help them at all, when they can keep selling the current ones and getting tons of Money. This is a business after all and running the footage through machines rather than humans is much much cheaper in the long run.

Consdering they got the film for free a few extra hundred thousand for the DBOX masters wouldn't kill, considering they know they'd sell more than the orange bricks.

But, alas...

You mean that overscan BS FUNi was trying to feed us? Y'know...acting like it's something that doesn't affect every other pre-digital animated series in existence?

It's pretty obvious that the reason FUNi created that faux widescreen master is because they want to hide the fact that Dragon Ball Z is an old, low-budget Japanese show. When it comes to the Dragon Ball franchise, FUNimation has been pretty clear that they don't really care about us existing fans as much as they do about grabbing new ones. Remeraber the "there's a nine-year old born every minute" quote?

And what's one way of hiding the age of a show and making it look like the fresh hotness? Widescreen.

what annoys me is they broke thier promise they made when season one came out new english lines but in the end they just replayed it with all the old dailouge which really pissed me off.
