"Dragon Ball Kai" Saiyan Story Arc (#1-16) Talkback (Spoilers)

Some things.

1) Staff, I hope you realize that we are in the 2009 and in the year 2009, it's usually common practice to change the OP song as the arcs go by. Therefore, as much as I love Dragon Soul, please don't make me listen to it for a whole other arc. Cha-la-head-cha-la was played for god knows how long. I mean heck, FMA:B changed their song! That's not so hard right?

(Note: This is just my thing. I usually like when they change the openings)

2) I love when Kuririn screams like he did at the end of the episode because I think "That is soooo Luffy."

3) Why the heck is Lunch even in the ED song?

The current OP is probably good for at least the entire Frieza saga. I'd be surprised if they didn't change it by the Cell saga when the current one is no longer relevant.

1. Well, Frieza's been in the opening since episode 1, so they might be alright with how the opening is now (even if it does still have Raditz and Nappa, the latter of which was in the Cha-La-Head-Cha-La version used during Namek anyways). What I'd be more wondering about is if they'll finally uncover the shadowed shots of the villains in the ending, especially once they've all been revealed.

3. Honestly, I think Toei still wishes Toriyama never forgot about Lunch...

Makufushigi was kept for all 153 DragonBall episodes. Cha La was kept for 199 episodes, WE GOTTA POWA for the rest of Z, and for all of GT DAN DAN was kept.

It's likely Dragon Soul will be kept but the animation altered. I think we'd have learnt the name of a new theme by now.

Yeah but Dragonball/Dragonball Z/Dragonball GT was in a different timeline from current anime. Anime back in the 80's/90's kept one theme and usually only changed the images depending on the arc they were adapating/doing. Nowadays long term ainme changes openings once every season of 20 something episodes. Dragonball Kai may jump aboard with that since times are different and they can't keep the opening they have now since it's primarily Sayian based. And really in truth since it's not like they're completley animating new material for the eps most of they're money may go into new openings/endings anyway.

Like I said, some of the animation might be changed out for more Namek-centric animation, but for the most part the opening is good. There's no reason for them to change it and it's likely we'd have heard of Tanimonoto doing new vocals by now. Right now 50 episodes are confirmed. For all we know the series will only go up to the end of the Planet Namek arc with Gok

Yeah, that's what I was hoping for too. They remove the stuff with Goku fighting Vegeta and replace it with Freeza or the Saibamen and replace it with the Ginyu Force.

I want to give my quick 2 cents about DBKai.

Though, I still personally think I still don't see whats the big deal is, but...

One is I love how they remove all the filers and unnecessary scenes. Pretty much skipping the boring stuff to straight to the fun. The color is ok. And, I got pretty much used to the OP/ED themes (But CHA-LA-HEAD-CHA-LA will always be the best)
And the JP dub. Yeah-Yeah-Yeah, always good, blah-blah-blah.

Though, I did found some parts to...Well, killed it for me.

I think in episode 16 were Vegeta went onto his rampage with Gohan. Some of the new animation killed it for me. I mean, it didn't felt right. I think the original animation work was the best.

And the new OST. Don't like it. Which, I find it odd ppl complain that FUNi OST was trying to sound cool; I personally think this new OST JP made sound more like they are trying to hard to make it cool then FUNi OST. I say just keep the original JP OST then making new ones.

But in all, yeah. I'll give it 7.5/10.

While I don't quite care for much of how the score is used here, there are certainly some good pieces. However, the breakneck pace of Kai sort of seems to be taxing Yamamoto's score.

Yamamoto's been doing DragonBall for years now. While I wish the Kikuchi score was being used, this is still a pretty good musical score.
