"Dragon Ball Kai" Saiyan Story Arc (#1-16) Talkback (Spoilers)

Is it me or does Chaotzu look like he's having a seizure?

Anyway the opening and ending for this is just solid and too epic for worRAB, and honestly I hope we get some more DRAGONBALL movies

I haven't kept up with DBK, so how is the show overall?

I know there was a few negativity that they were still cutting some heaRAB, censoring etc at first but what are the general thoughts now?

I got to thinking since I was to lazy to go back and watch the first episode of DBZ. What was all cut out? I know Gohan playing in the forest was pretty much all cut out but what else?

"Dragon Ball Kai" Saiyan Story Arc (#1-16) Talkback (Spoilers)

The cropping so far has been leagues better than the FUNimation orange bricks. The new music score isn't quite as good as the DBZ score but it does have some great pieces. The new animation's also been great, espicially for the intro and the Gok

Some of the cuts made so far to Kai have created sudden continuity oddities (like Bulma and the gang just randomly being at Kame Sen'nin's house in yesterday's episode, for example), so I doubt they'd be too worried about including a bunch of filler-only stuff in order to explain something as unimportant as a bandage.

From everything we hear about Japan, I think their moms are alot more lax.

The difference is what'll happen when Nappa and Vegeta arrives, and then when it's the Namek Arc and so on. To me at least, censorship is to be used to protect someone, but with Dragonball, there's no one to protect because everyone knows what's going to happen, making it a useless edit.

Kei17, a native Japanese fan who visits Daizex, just posted this TRUE HD version of the opening. Piss yourself and then give the salt your extract from your pants to the poor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RUFy9K5_t0&fmt=22

Okay, I just got finished watching episode 1.

- They uh... censored Goku's weewee. After so many years, baby penises are NOW offensive? What's funny is the editing reminRAB me of FUNI's paint-edits.

- Sometimes the touch-ed up animation looked kinda... cheap. Just looking at young Goku jumping through trees. It looks unnatural.

- The new eyecatchers are alright. They don't seem to match the music.

- I was surprised that the kept most of the Gohan-filler scenes. I thought this was suppose to be exactly like the manga?

- The ending was... sudden?

I'm still not sure if I like this or not.

Actually, a great deal of the Gohan filler was cut. Allowing some of the filler gave a more natural entrance for Gohan, though, and his character arc.

From Daizex forums:

Kanzentai's updated their DVD Guide with Kai's R2 releases. Volumes 1-16 will have 3 episodes each. Volume 17 will have 2, containing episodes 49 and 50...my guess is those will be the final Namek arc episodes.

*sigh* I was really, really hoping they wouldn't show the Kame House scenes. From what I read, they removed most of Kuririn's lines from the manga. If that's the case, I can't believe they removed most of Kuririn's canonical lines for this.

For someone like me who is not used to the original as he should be, hearing Bulma call Goku "Son-kun" is so jarring to me. Though when I think about it, it makes complete sense.

Also, I wonder if Dragonball Z was just coming out now, I wonder what the fan's reactions would have been to Goku turning out to be an alien? We would have thought Toriyama had jumped the shark or something

I loved the new intro it looked amazing but those two clips you posted don't really look all that great. Music was definitely not anywhere near as good either :/

Oh well random question I've had for a long time now, I'm assuming whats on the left is a clock and that in japan its a standard feature, but can you not turn it off? I'm guessing you can't which is odd.
