Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z question

Maybe some of these questions have been answered before, not sure.. but it will help having them in a single topic.

1. Were Goku and Piccolo supposed to be normal earth creatures? I'm wondering since Wikipedia mentions Goku and Piccolo were "Recasted" as Aliens. Implying that we were supposed to think originally that it was normal for an earthling to have a Monkey tail on his behind and that the existence of a Green creature capable of destroying the world is possible without being an Alien. Also when watching DBZKai I noticed how forced it felt when their enemy suddenly told them: "ZOMG You're aliens!"

2. Was Goku supposed to die on Namek? That was another scene that felt forced to me. When they were like: "Goku is alive! But he doesn't want to/able to comeback for now.

3. I read once (Not sure if it was here at TZ) that Gohan was supposed to be the new lead after the Cell Games. But fans complained and they decided to bring back Goku once more. Is this true?

I could argue that Goku's origins weren't necessarily science fiction.
You have to remeraber that pre-Saiya-jin Saga Dragon Ball focused more on magic. The DragonBalls were magic, some of the enemies from Piccolo Daimou to Baba's cronies were magical beings. Thus, it was implied that Goku was a magical being. With the Saiya-jin Saga, everything veered away to science fiction with aliens and androiRAB. It wasn't until Buu that the original magic direction returned.

Yeeeeeah, I'm still betting on editorial/fan complaints changing this. I mean, really, Gohan was MUCH more fitted to be the main character during the Buu saga than Goku was, but Goku just HAD to hog the spotlight yet again....

I seen to recall discussions here at rabroad a few years ago mentioning that there were Editorial/Fan complaints about Gohan taking the spotlight and it kind of makes sense if you notice the development of the final episodes of the Cell Saga and the results of the battle. Specially how the whole show from the beginning made it look that Gohan was stronger than Goku.

Also another discussion I seem to remeraber (hence why the question..) was that Dragon Ball was supposed to end at the Freeza Saga. Goku reaching Saiyan, killing Freeza and then dying on Namek. I still think it was supposed to end that way if you analyze the forced way the whole: "He's alive but he's not ready/can't come back yet" was introduced. This rumor specially has been running on the internet for quite a long time. Of course doesn't mean it's true, it's just a theory. Anime (specially those that are based on manga) tend to abandon concepts)

Not to mention the Buu saga starts with Gohan as the Great Saiyaman before Goku ever enters the picture, has him be the one who Babidi's two goons need energy from to revive Buu, and of course the whole mystic training subplot which is obviously setting up his full power being truly awakened and HIM defeating Buu. And yet, he gets unceremonously absorbed by Buu in the end, and Goku and Vegeta wind up defeating him instead. I know Goku's popular and all, but this saga just wasn't his story.
