Dragging Knee

Thats my opinion also , Iv,e seen guy,s with there long legs so far off on there seats that it looks almost pitiful , than you drive by on the outside without dragging your knee ?
It,s not a must to drag your knee , only when your closing the limits of the bike , like Tito says , it,s mainly to find that point.

Dragging a knee is a style choice. Lots of very fast guys don't do it. It has nothing to do with the bike. If you hang off far enough you can drag your knee on a scooter. I'm a dragger. I find it helps me get a better feel for my lean angle and track position. But that's just me. I'm a mid pack rider. I know guys who can flat out smoke me like a cheap cigar, but their knee pucks have never touched pavement.

It's been awhile since I've ridden with any real aggression. I just picked up my 1098S three days ago, hadn't ridden a street bike in nearly ten years. The 1098 handles so well it feels as if I've never been off. As to dragging your knee I recall riding my 1990 FZR1000 which was quite capable back in the 90s and I remember dragging the pegs in just the right apex which is a better indicator of lean angle than dragging your knee. At least it was back then, with rearsets and different footpeg location I guess it maybe totaly different today. Take a look at your wear patterns on your tires as well and see how much of the side wall is scuffing. That's an absolute indicator of lean angle.

It's an indicator of you've gone as far as you can go. I'd rather have my knee tell me before I get that far. Scraping pegs is bad. And should be avoided. Ask any race school instructor. At my fisrt school I wa told, bluntly, that my toes were scraping and that was a sign of improper positioning. And tires can wear differently for different reasons. It's entirley possible to wear your tires to the edges without maxing lean angle.

If your pegs are scraping your body work is very soon too follow, pegs scraping is a bad sign that means you are not getting off the bike enough.

As for dragging toe I do that every now and then and it has nothing to do with bad position IM a SIZE 13 just big ole feet.

Best way to learn in safe manner is do some track days take a track day course with a good company and learn at your own pace somewhere that you will not end up under a truck, in a car grill, or thru a divider

I wasn't suggesting that you should try to scrape your pegs just that that was an indicaction that you were near maimum lean angle. Also I was not a racer so I was laying it over on select roads in NC and was not wearing full leathers hence no knee pucks. The footpegs on my Yamaha had the 1/4 inch or so extention off of the bottom of the peg that basically told you that you were at the limit. My point also was that you can get the extreme lean angle without hanging way off of the bike.
