Downton Abbey - ITV1

Well Thomas knew that the Turkish bloke went to Mary's bedroom. And as Bates quite correctly summised ... Thomas is a slimy rat! So ... goodness knows what mischief Thomas would like to make.

Oh please let something happen between Bates and Anna.

Phew - and there was I thinking I was just being mega-hard to please!!
I totally agree with everything you said, Parthena! I think it's generally so popular because, like Larkrise, it's bloody good soap! But for me so far .... no.
I'm grateful for ANY escapist type drama though, particularly on a Sunday night, but the characters are woefully dull (to me) - the only sympathetic one being Brendon Coyle's character.
I wish with all my heart I could get into it more - I do watch but only because there's so little else. (Am quite enjoying Mark Billingham thriller on Sky 1 which I Sky +)
But the only prog I truly look forward to all week is the Swedish Wallander.
Oh well, I shall be tuned in tonight just in case it gets any better!

YAY! :D :D :D

I was just happy it had 7 episodes rather than the usual lowly 2 or 3 UK tv seems to consist of - but another whole series!? It can't come quickly enough! Really! I have no idea what I'm going to do once this series enRAB. Probably weep silently in my room a la Bates.

Really enjoying this series! It looks gorgeous in HD. Overall, I felt Ep. 1 was much better than Ep. 2, which was a little 'soapy' in comparison. Ep. 1 did a fantastic job at introducing a broad array of characters to us, and was excellent at portraying the upstairs/downstairs aspect of grand society. I like the introduction of Matthew (Dan Stevens) - especially his disdain for the silliness of 'service' and the airs and graces of Downton Abbey. It seems pretty clear there will be an attraction at the very least between Lady Mary and Matthew - all that bickering and arch insults. But I have a feeling he'll eventually marry the youngest daughter, Sybil.

Well given that the last ITV drama I tried was Identity... and then reverted back to the beeb for The Deep... I am pinning all my hopes on this. Assuming my stupid car actually gets me home after 2 efforts of warning lights and at least the 2nd AA man was more helpful than the first and cleared it safe to drive the 150m home.

I will need something to soothe my motorway frazzled nerves!

Uh... We know. The question is, will it go to series 2, 3 etc or is it a one off drama i.e . Just this run and no other.
Do you remember Upstairs Downstairs, a similar drama which ran for years.
Downton characters and stories are strong enough to carry for a few series aren't they. Hope they do, but as I said, costume period is expensive to make.

UD spanned the years between 1903 and 1930 so it's not really being updated; more a case of continuing the story but with Rose/Jean Marsh becoming housekeeper at no. 165.

I understand that it's not going to be a Christmas special but a series. Given that most ITV drama series only last a few episodes perhaps mini-series might be a better description.
