Downton Abbey - ITV1

Similar timescale & story to Upstairs Downstairs, except the family is richer than the Bellamys/SouthwolRAB.

Upstairs/downstairs started in 1894 & went thro the 1st WW to the 20's. There was massive upheaval within the classes as well as the burgeoning independence of women, i'm guessing Downton will follow a similar path

I had a laugh at that too.

I guessed there was something between the Duke and the footman but hadn't guessed it quite right. I thought maybe the Duke had made a pass at the footman in the past, which he didn't like, not that they had had an affair.

I have a feeling that one of the cousins who presumed dead after the Titanic went down, will turn up, alive.

Really enjoyed that, but as others have said, the aRAB just ruin the flow. I don't have Sky Plus or anything, so I guess I'm stuck with it :(

what is going on with the new valet? I went out for a drink and missed a bit, and I can't work out why the others downstairs are funny with him...

They use both at Downton - they even discussed it saying that some people were happy to use it and others weren't. It isn't installed in the kitchens because the Lord didn't see the point and it isn't in the bedrooms because the lady didn't want it there thinking it might give off noxious fumes. I dare say they wouldn't dream of wasting it on the servants either.
