Downton Abbey - ITV1

Are STV mad?

Do they really think that "Scot in the Antarctic' will be more popular than 'Downton Abbey'? Madness.

I can understand if STV want to opt out of bad programmes during primetime, but DA is a plush, big budget costume drama.

I have watched that bit half a dozen times and am still not tired of it.

Hilarious.

I felt episode 2 was a bit weak, with throwaway stories that didn't add much to the ongoing saga. It's improved greatly with eps 3 and 4.

I'm fascinated that Mrs Fatwa, the cook, knows Thomas is gay. How widely known is this? I had assumed that O'Brien knows, but am surprised it seems to be more widely known. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Made me wonder when she asked whether it would hurt or not, was she really directing the question to herself. ;) Also, you have to feel sorry for someone whose first sexual encounter results in death. It sure doesn't help one's self esteem.

I'm not sure why you think the prospect of the UK being invaded by a fascist dictator is even comparable with the Bush family's vendetta against Sadam Hussain and some fabricated claims about nuclear weapons ...

Bisexuality is no bar to having children, but homosexuality is, using natural methoRAB. That's what I meant by Nature perhaps having a more modern say in dealing with the population explosion.

If everyone is bisexual (as I read so long ago), then it means most people make a choice about their sexuality, whether they are aware of it or not. For others, there is no choice and that's the way they are.

And I agree with you, that it is rather sad that there are those who have made homosexuality a political issue. Now that it is legal, people should just be allowed to conduct their affairs in the privacy of their own home because it is actually nothing to do with anyone else what anyone's sexuality is.

Must have missed that bit but i'm not impressed by some of the historical aspects, something their historical advisor should have picked up on.

I thought Thomas was rebuffed as he was helping him get dressed before dinner. So he had all the time from then until he gave him the tea and showed him to Mary's room quite some time after dinner.

Too true - Upstairs Downstairs on ITV3 at 3pm at present isn't broadcast with the breaks in their original spots and now lasts 75 minutes against its original run time of 60 mins inc ad breaks!
