Downton Abbey - ITV1

I had thought they were mother/son, but in last week's episode, when she asked him why he was fixing the clock, he said his father used to do that... which made me think, hm, she can't be his mother, then. Or if she is, that bit of dialogue was quite odd.

She's very good indeed! I really can't totally hate her or Thomas... I suppose I can't help but feel sorry for them, they are the only ones so openly frustrated, bitter and un-accepting of their lowly status.

He should have whipped it out again, though. It stuck out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of the dialogue. There was one other moment when one of the downstairs lot gave a very soapy line a suitably over-the-top delivery, otherwise it was a nicely-constructed script that got the production it deserved.

Programmes dating from the 80s and earlier had only 3 advert breaks per hour when they were first broadcast and the programme makes were well aware of the convention and allowed natural cuts in the drama for commercials. You also did not have inflated trailers for other programmes during an episode, only between programmes. Watch an hour's episode of a classic programme on ITV3 and compare it to a modern programme. You get more programming minutes in the classic programmes per hour than in their modern counterparts.
It is one reason why nowadays I tend to watch dramas on BBC rather than ITV.

I haven't watched the programmes that people have said Brendan Coyle has appeared in, but he looked very familiar. Just realised that he reminRAB me very much of Diarmiud Gavin.

This isn't lazy journalism. I'm actually rather impressed that the legitimate comments made on this thread regarding the continuity of this programme being spoilt by all the aRAB and trailers have been taken up by the Daily Mail. If viewers threaten to try and avoid the aRAB by recording the show, then perhaps ITV might realise that people could actually miss the aRAB altogether. Part of ITV's income is through advertising, but what would be the point of having more advertising, if people find ways of avoiding it?

Downton Abbey was expensive to make but revenue from it is not just from advertising, but from selling it around the world as a programme, as a DVD and from repeats. ITV has realised that reality programmes have a short shelf-life and can really be shown only once. There is little international revenue from I'm A Celebrity, for example, either as a DVD or from repeats.

Rather than see this is as lazy journalism, we should be happy that this forum might be seen as indicative of the attitude of the TV audience at large. ITV might learn the lesson that more advertising could actually be bad for their income and viewing figures.

Can anyone tell me why she should be so unremittingly nasty?
I guess that's why I have problems with this - too many cardboard cutout characters and very little light and shade.

Bravo !!!

I couldnt give a monkeys if there are mistakes in it ,I sit enthralled for an hour and long for more .Its wonderful, the acting is simply divine and the whole show is just wonderful .
