Downton Abbey - ITV1

I dipped into a couple of eps when he was doing it, flicking back and forth. I am determined to get through my entire three score and ten span without EVER seeing a complete episode. Sadly I am tainted by having been tricked into watching a few of the first eps of Eastenders. I feel dirty for having done so.

:D:D:D:D:D I'm lol-ing! It does sound like syphilis but it's erisepalis.. not sure of the spelling!
Glad I'm not a doctor. I diagnosed it as eczema!

Nope - don't worry, you haven't missed her! I've seen her in the trails though but perhaps she doesn't make an entry till another ep

I vaguely remember an Upstairs Downstairs episode of the young Lady (Nicola Pagett?) getting involved in the suffragettes. Rose went with her, reluctantly, to a protest. They got arrested, the poshe woman got let off, and poor Rose who was really just a bystander, got carted off to Holloway.

I'm waiting for a reprise of this, with the red haired maid carrying the can.

I don't want to sound rude but your post makes it seem that you thought you were watching a documentary.

You could go through just about every drama on TV and point out inaccuracies and dramatic licence for example - do the police act like Barnaby in MiRABomer, or any doctors act like those in Casualty, or is there a square in England anything like Albert Square - of course not.

There are doubtless hundreRAB of inaccuracies of speech, manners and practice in Downton - but so what?

Ah ok, thanks Dimsie for the corrections there ! We shall see soon I expect.. but I bet he drags her into tricky politics and she gets her fingers burnt !

If Maggie Smith doesn't win a BAFTA for this, I'll eat that bowl of poisonous goo that Daisy nearly served for dinner!

The relationship between the Family and the Satff seems very warm, maybe moreso than I would have expected for the period.
But I am thinking that this may be to do with the Countess (Duchess? Lady Cora?) being American and therefore maybe more egalitarian.
Lord Hugh Boneville also seems quite a kindly employer.

(Hopefully this will improve HB's CV after the ghastly Bonekickers...!)
