For years I have set the system software downloads on my 3100 and now the 6100 to require my permission but every time I check them I have the newest software and the setting
Expressvu can force the receiver to download new firmware regardless of what the setting is on your receiver. All of EV's receiver are being forced to download new firmware to prepare for the new card swap.
Why woudn't you want it at whithout my permission? With that setting it ensures that all new software version, all new info will be downloaded to your receiver...a receiver with the wrong software could have problems getting the programming your suscribe and pay for
I think that EV, as the other person's were saying could force the software download. You know what? I will change my 9200 settings to whithout my permission, wait a few days and verify...
On the newer models, the option to accept or deny has been removed.
Some reasons to set to accept, on models that have the option, include:
- new features
- anti-piracy
- bug fixes
- new interactive options
- fewer calls in to support
Some reasons against:
- If it works, don't "fix" it
- PVR HDDs sometimes get erased during an update
