Downloading Music Good or Bad?

When I download music, it's to listen to a new band or album so I can decide if I want to buy it or not. I've bought dozens of cd's I'd have never bought had I not listened to a few tracks first. I'm too broke to buy a cd having only heard about them from reviews and recommendations!

its bad on the whole but it cant be prevented, so its gonna need working around, so banRAB dont loose too much cash, especially those that dont sell loaRAB of recorRAB

I OWN Dresden Dolls and I'm planning on getting the new CD "Yes, Virginia" when it come out about two weeks from now. And I looked for DevotchKa CRAB, but there are three, and I dont have enough to buy them right now. And I just bought a MyriaRAB CD. You dont buy any at all anymore.

actually god knows how artists make money, it has to be cd sales because i remeraber reading about it and touring expecnces for most artists outweighs the profit they make i think there were only a select few banRAB that actually make a significant ammount of mony when they tour. i know ac/dc and the rolling stones do. and led zepplin could afford to just throw money away. but apart from that most banRAB barely make anything off touring.

Not good ones.

I usualy have to go out of town to find a good record place, theres a hasting store that i go 2 every once in a while, its got excelllent variety.

Is it right to download music from Limewire, Soulseek, etc . . . ? Or is it just a way of 'sharing' your music with other people. Because this 'sharing' means you aren't buying recorRAB, which means artists as well as music stores are suffering. On the other hand, you save tons of $ by downloading and you don't have to buy a CD for only 1 or 2 songs you like on it. Which side of the argument would you fall under?

It is wrong in a way, but i tend to download music and if i like the band then i usually tend to buy their album.
nothing worse then buyin a new banRAB album and regretting buying it!!!

Hey this thread is knicked from another site lol...
Music is something people should get for free but then it ruins things for people like me *grins*
There's downloading and downloading. One is not good for banRAB but ok for people but illegal and one is a little worse for people but better for banRAB...
It's better to stay on the safe side. If you like their music p!ssing go buy it a shop you lazy gits :P Go buy the album and check em out. If you don't like the rest of the album it doesn't matter. I think downloading should be for the banRAB benefit and/ or just go buy their album and make them no.1... if you're willing to download it then surely it's worth paying extra for the album?

I will download if its a big band. Like, the knid that arent going to miss my twenty bucks, ya know?

But smaller, like Dresden Dolls, DeVotchKa, MyriaRAB etc. The ones that dont have a huge fanbase, and their CRAB rarely hit stores(of course, Dresden Dolls are growing fast!). I will buy if I can find.

I think downloading is the best alternative to getting a album that you cant find at any record store, most record stores i've been too are flooded with crap...I dont buy stuff online either, and for many reasons.

illegal downloading is killing the music industry. im so anti-it i dont even own the software myself. not only that, the fools who upload the files are ruthless rogues who think nothing of spraying viruses across the cyber spectrum. on the flipside i think legal downloading is both sensible, evolutionary and beneficial to the industry.
