Downloading Google Map data

Hi,

is there any way I can download google maps to my phone, so that I have all the map data for Europe on the SD card (without streetview)?

The internet is slow in some locations, plus with downloading I cannot use the app outside my country, since roaming internet costs are high.
 
Google Maps has to work with a data connection. You can't download the maps beforehand. If you want offline maps, you will have to use one of the other mapping apps on the Market. I've not tried any of them, but the previous post to this offers what looks like a good link.
