Download Options by Folder on IMAP

Hi,
I've had a bit of a search but come up blank.
I'm loving my new android phone but am finding that it's reliability seems to come at a cost to flexibility.
My current issue is imap folders:
I can subscribe to all my imap folders no problem, but i can't seem to get them to sync individually.
For example
my inbox and sent items, i like the last two weeks on my phone (I have the last three years on the server), no problem, i go into settings, into Download Options and set Two Weeks
But on my IMAP folder called "Purchase orders" i'd like to go back the full three years... but can't find a way of doing so
any ideas?
 
Didn't he say IMAP folders, rather than GMail?

There isn't a way to do this that I can see in the Email app's options either. I guess they figured if an email was more than a few weeks old you must have read it and dealt with it.

Similar to what was suggested above, you can use the browser to go to your email provider's webmail site. Or you can set up your GMail account to pull all your emails from your other account, and look at them with the GMail app.
 
hmmm, i'm wary of using the gmail app
thanks for the advice though.

and yes, What i'm saying is i want to look at a folder that has a few emails in from a long time ago, but restrict a big folder (inbox) to the last two weeks.

will the gmail app still allow me to send and receive via [email protected]?
