The update for the Eris is pretty flawed- lots of Erises have to be wiped after the update, which is what I would recommend that you do.. Make sure you know your Gmail login, and make sure all your contacts are synced to it.. Your app history should be saved in the Market under your Gmail account, but I'd recommend writing them all down just in case, and backing up data to the memory card for any apps that allow it- notes, texts, etc. When you're ready, go to Settings->SD Card and Phone Storage and unmount the SD card, and then take it out. Then do the wipe by going to Settings->Privacy->Factory Data Reset. You can go into a Verizon store to have them do it if you feel uncomfortable with doing it
