Which again, is the result of a problem that has been building over the past several decades with both democrats and republicans playing kick the can and just raising the debt ceiling with no real actions to control spending.

That is the problem to which both Dems and Reps have contributed which has lead us to the past few months of everyone going "Oh no, we can't kick the can anymore."
 
6 years of total republican rule, 2 years of democrats passing no significant reforms because of fear of a government shutdown over Bush's objections, and then 2 years of Obama after the economy had already melted down under Bush
