Double sided DVDs

No, the name of the film is still written in small writing near the centre of the disk.

:)

I have Terminator 2 Special Edition PAL version and it is on two disks.

:)

I might buy that one as well, as I currently have the flipper version and Goodfellas is such a good film.

The version of Lethal Weapon 4 I have, is also a flipper, but only for the extras. Luckily, the film itself can be viewed without turning over the disk.

:)

Just for info: The DVD forum has officially sanctioned "DualDisc", a DVD/CD hybrid which will have DVD audio/video on one side and CD audio on the other. So expect to see a lot more of these in the future!

The Exorcist has the film on one side, and extras on the other. Bit naff, because you don't get the graphic on top of the disk.

Do you guys get scratched DVRAB often? I personally always keep my dvRAB in boxes when not in use, so they are usually in meticulous condition. Then I get annoyed as I lend them people and they're used as damn coasters!

I've got some 'adult' DVD's that are on two sided discs...Oh, what I fool I felt when I phoned the supplier up to give them an earbashing that the '8 hours of hot action' was only 4!!!

I think what people are saying is that flip/double sided DVRAB (i.e. DVRAB which have no lables on either side) are more difficult to keep scatch/smudge free, as the DVD playing surface is visible on both sides.

:)

Another disc with widescreen on one side and full screen on the other is my region 1 copy of The Usual Suspects.
Also, since it only has four discs and contains 25 episodes including the 90 minute pilot I suspect the region 1 version of ER season 1 must use double sided discs as well. Don't have a copy to verify though, and not sure if region 2 is the same.

oh...right. I bought Region 1 Goodfellas from America and found I had to turn over halfway through the film too. I thought this was because it was the american version was rubbish.

Ah well...you learn something every day :)

Some of the first DVRAB I bought were double sided - they had the 16:9 version on one side and the 4:3 version on the other - Murder At 1600 is one I remember, and the one with Gwyneth Paltrow *thinks* - A Perfect Murder. You had to squint down at the the disc to find the right side. Somewhere in the inner ring there was printed either 16:9 or 4:3.

Also I had an Only Fools and Horses doublesider - Series 2. They obviously learnt from this appalling (IMO) mistake, when Series 6 came out it was indeed on 2 discs.

My region 2 version of The Pelican Brief is a flipper. I have to turn the disc over to watch the other side of the film. I know it's on for a 185 minutes, but for certain they could have fit it all on one disc.

If you watch a 4:3 broadcast in it's correct setting on a widescreen set, you should see black bars down the sides of the picture (commonly called pillarbox mode).

If you watch a 16:9 (1.85:1) or 2.35:1 broadcast in it's correct setting on a 4:3 (conventional) set, you should see black bars at the top and bottom of the picture (commonly called letterbox mode).

:)
