Door Courtesy Doubts?

Today at college, I was approaching an outwards opening door from outside and as I opened it a girl behind it with several beverages in her hands was right behind the door, about to walk through. Seeing how I was in a rush to catch my bus home I walked straight through the doorway past her, obliging her to stop momentarily to let me through. I thought that me going through first was fair since I was the one who had opened the door for her. Moreover, the door was a slow-closing one. However, as I went through she got angry and said "Excuuuuuse meee!" and after she had passed through and as I was heading off she snapped "RUDE!!" I found this unfair and I snapped back "Like you". I may not have been the most courteous person on the planet but no one can say that I did something wrong, can they? My understanding is that common courtesy is a gift from the heart and not a duty owed to others. Could someone clarify this?
