For several months now i have been experiencing terrible heartburn..
anything i eat will cause me to have heartburn
i can take tums or some over the counter acid reducers they will help some but not enough.

I spoke to my family doctor today and he did some type of blood test and mentioned something about checking for bacteria in my stomach.
that sometimes it can cause heartburn?

Hi, you should have the Heycobacter test, which determines if you have this bacteria which can cause you stomach problems. If so, you will be given an antibiothic terapy and a PPI medicine like Protonix, Nexium or other.
What medicines did you try?
Did your doctor mention about having gastroscopy or/and Ph measurment test? They can indicate what kind of reflux you have and what is the cause for it (for example. lower valve weakness).
Have you followed any antireflux diet?
Best!

H-Pylori is a bacteria in the stomach that can cause reflux, heartburn and ulcers. If they can eradicate that, they may be able to get rid of the heartburn. Hope the treatment works for you in relieving symptoms. I think it is a corabination of antibiotics, Pepto and a PPI.

I've been tested for the H pylori about 4-5 times now and all have come back Neg. I don't have that but I do still have heartburn and acid reflux. I just had an Endoscopy done yesterday and the Dr said that I have Gasteritis. So now I have to Really buckle down and eliminate fooRAB that are bad for my stomach. Good luck sweetie.

In the meantime, you can try papaya for breakfast and in between meals,
do not stay too long without eating. I also take mint tea -decaf-. Hope you feel better!

you have chronic cough. caused by laryngeal sensory neuropathy. you need to get lyrica or elavil. If those don't agree with you, you need a neurologist or someone find you the right gaba-a agonist or tricyclic drugs. Trust me. That will solve it.
If you do solve it that way, go on these pages after and tell everyone with the same problem, so they aren't coughing for years needlessly.

Thanks for the replies.
My dr did the blood test a day ago for the bacteria.
I have tried many over the counter medications such as Zantac & Prevacid
But it still worries me that i get it so often, usually every day

You need something stronger than over the counter strength, and it neeRAB to be taken for a while before you even begin to see results. Zantac and prevacid tend to be useless for people with true reflux as opposed to occasional heartburn. Prilosec, zegrid, protonix, etc at high doses are usually more helpful.

The H. pylori test that they did was just to test for the bacteria that are a frequent cause of ulcers. Ulcers are different than reflux. If you're positive for the H. pylori, you will take antibiotics to clear up that situation, but you still need your reflux issue addressed. There is no blood test for reflux. You should see a GI specialist or even a second opinion from another general practitioner. Untreated reflux can lead to many other medical problems, very rarely can also cause cancer. It should not be ignored. Stand up for yourself and demand that your chronic heartburn (reflux) be taken care of.
