Don't hit me...

This is probably one of those problems you hear about a million times and are completely sick of, but I'm having a bit of trouble, so please try to bear with me.

The phone in question here is a Sony Ericsson Z500a. The other night, I got a bit clumsy and ended up breaking my phone into two pieces. The top half with the screen and camera snapped right off. I don't care too much about the phone itself; I have a backup. However, there are quite a few files on there that I really, really don't want to lose.

Although the phone was broken in half, I know it's still operational. I managed to successfully make a phone call with it; I just can't see anything because there's no screen. Because it's still operational, I thought I would try hooking it up to my computer in hopes of extracting what I need. That's where my problem comes in...

Installing the DCU-11 cable was a real pain. I read through the cable thread and it didn't help me, but I managed to find a random driver on Google and I was finally able to install the cable. Unfortunately, I can't get PC Suite to recognize my phone. It doesn't even recognize that a phone is connected. I tried using Float's Mobile Agent, but when I try to connect my phone, the program freezes. Unplugging my phone unfreezes it.

So...there you have it. I've been working at this for two days with no real results and it's getting quite disheartening. If anyone has any tips, it would be greatly appreciated. And if there is any other information you need, don't hesitate to ask.

Perhaps the main board on your Z500 was damaged. Maybe that's why Float is freezing whenever the phone is connected. Are the files really important to you? I'd do some research, but I'm just using my PDA phone right now. =(
 
Thanks for your response. I suspected a damaged mainboard, but I guess it's kinda hard to say either way right now, eh? I know the cable connecting the mainboard and screen has been damaged (obviously), but I don't know if anything else was.

If I can't get this method to work, I plan on acquiring another Z500a and switching out the parts in hopes that I'll at least be able to access the files. I'd try sending at least the pictures to my computer via texts, but unfortunately, picture texting was never enabled for that phone.

And yes, the files are very important to me, so any suggestion is worth a shot.
 
NOTE: Out of curiosity, I tried FMA without the phone plugged in and I had the same problem. Maybe this has something to do with my cable? A driver issue perhaps? But if so, I'm not sure how to go about remedying this.
 
Not long ago, I had to turn everything on my desk upside down to find the software disk for my mom's data cable. Somehow, her computer "lost" the drivers and when I tried to use drivers I found on google, it didn't work. Turns out her generic LG data cable bought on ebay will only work with the drivers it came with... now I'm talking about a different brand and everything but I'm thinking perhaps it's possible your driver is the culprit. My mom's computer wouldn't detect or recognize her phone with the googled drivers I found and I had to make an extra trip across town to get the disk from my house, then I had no trouble at all.
 
I wish the phone has bt.....but z500 does not

That totally reminds me...my mom bought this cable on eBay, so I searched her room and found the USB Cable DCU-11 disk. Exciting stuff. However, I can't get it to work at all. I mean, the included programs install fine, but I can't get the drivers to work. I just get an error message saying Could not open uninstaller ini file: (null)

Gah, this has got to be the most frustrating technological problem I've ever faced.
 
Not much of an update, but I figured I'd let everyone know that I've given up on the cable and I'm just going to try to fix the darn phone...if I can. Heh.
