Don't astronomy and geology provide a much more grand conception of "God" than any...

geologists say the earth is 4 1/2 billion years old. Biblical scholars say the earth is 6,000 years old - I tend to go with the geologists on this point.

...ancient Israelite stories? We shouldn't confuse the two. Even if someone could prove a form of "intelligent design" it wouldn't prove anything at all about the bible tales. For all you know, the intelligent designer could be Vishnu, Ahura Mazda, Zeus or Osiris.
What the cosmos and science shows us is how feeble and human those biblical ideas of a creator really are. It doesn't rule out a creator; it just proves that its much bigger and more amazing than the all-too-human character portrayed in any bible story.

What's your point? Has science proven the God isn't the designer?
Truly, science only provides more questions.
God provides answers, you don't have to except them but, that doesn't change them.

Unlike religion, science does not provide for ultimate answers or truth. Religion does, but without evidence: it's little more than fairy tales to stimulate the spiritual side of people.

We can only know a limited range of things, and even then we can always question our knowledge.

The divine in the universe is, for the most part, the scientists nostalgy over already deceased gods.

But, truth is, we only know what has happened in the recent story of the universe and the rest is hypothesis.

There is no inherent purpose. Life exists by accident, and human life as well. We're born, live, die and are forgotten.

Some day this whole galaxy will be gone too, nothing but cold rocks and dark clouds of hydrogen floating in space.

Why the need for any religious dimension? We come from nothing, we go back to nothing.

What science provides is insight into the mechanics of God's creation. God has chosen (and inspired) those biblical narratives as the means by which he reveals himself to us. To dismiss the Bible as being a mere collection of "stories" reveals an ignorance of the facts.

The Tree of knowledge was defining a separation from God.Looking for God in Knowledge will not work. You will only find stuff...
