Unlike religion, science does not provide for ultimate answers or truth. Religion does, but without evidence: it's little more than fairy tales to stimulate the spiritual side of people.
We can only know a limited range of things, and even then we can always question our knowledge.
The divine in the universe is, for the most part, the scientists nostalgy over already deceased gods.
But, truth is, we only know what has happened in the recent story of the universe and the rest is hypothesis.
There is no inherent purpose. Life exists by accident, and human life as well. We're born, live, die and are forgotten.
Some day this whole galaxy will be gone too, nothing but cold rocks and dark clouds of hydrogen floating in space.
Why the need for any religious dimension? We come from nothing, we go back to nothing.
