Donnie Darko 2 - You're kidding me!

I'd imagine that they are calling it 'Donnie Darko 2' on the trailers so that people know for definite that it's the sequel to DD. In the US they advertised it as purely 'S. Darko' and i believe that it bombed. Rightfully so too...

Avoid it, it's crap. They basically just re-hash the original film but totally ruin it at the same time. The acting and direction is woeful. Seriously, if you liked DD you will hate 'S. Darko'.

It doesn't have the same writer, director, producers, or major actors as the original Donnie Darko. They just took the rights to the characters and cashed in on them with a new team of people.

I personally am thinking about giving it a miss too. I loved the first movie and don't want to taint it with this obvious attempt at recreating the success of the original. I will stick with the fond memories. :)

I enjoyed watching it for the sole reason of how hot the main girl is. She was the little kid in Donnie Darko but she's certainly not a kid anymore! The most gorgeous eyes... OK aside from her there's not much reason to watch it. It's a slight rehash of DD but with a couple of different twists to it, and obviously nowhere near as good. It would have been passable maybe if the ending wasn't so crap. Some decent effects though for direct-to-DVD fare.

There are some movies that should just never be touched again.

I'm not even going to take a glance at this, hopefully most folks will remember (or not even know) this horrific idea of a sequel ever existed.

Donnie Darko is one of my favourite films (am a Gyllenhaalic)
I think it should have been left as a one off classic - put the new one behind the CellarDoor....out of sight.

y are they murdering some classic films with a remake or a sequel and i thought donnie darko was really good and has stuck in my mind and y a sequel and how the hell are they gnna do this

By the way can anyone send a link for the tv spot trailer as i wanna see it in some wierd way as i am still yet to see it and just laugh at how bad it is?

i saw the advert for the dvd on tv the other day...straight to dvd obviously. oh dear.
have to say though, i've seen Donnie Darko a few times, and i really don't get the hype.

It's worth noting that Richard Kelly, the director of Donnie Darko, was really pissed off that they went ahead with S. Darko, though he couldn't stop it from happening. He even went as far as to say that he would never again work with anyone who worked on S. Darko. Not that that means much. The only cast member from Donnie Darko who appeared in it was the beautiful Daveigh Chase, and he probably would never have cast her in anything again anyway. He is overrated too, totally fluking Donnie Darko.

I watched this, the plot was just even more confusing than the first * i love the 1st film, but the first time i watched it, i was like??, it took me another watching of it, and looking online to figure the entire thing out* but i loved it none the less.

This sequel was not needed, it was....just not that great :S.
