doing a verizon month to month plan?

I know that a person under the age of 18 cannot legally sign into a legally binding contract, therefore they cannot sign up for a cell phone plan like a 2 year one. But i was wondering i i were to buy the cell phone itself say from Best buy then could i go to Verizon Wireless with the phone and then do a month to month plan, just like when doing a 2 year contract but without signing up for it.

PLEASE ONLY KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE ANSWER THIS QUESTION. IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS THERE
