Doing a debate tomorrow in class. just wanted some extra info.?

Probably the stupidest debate ever. The debate is, did the United States act appropriately when the decision was made to hold Japanese American citizens in internment camps during WWII? I am con or no on this decision. I am pretty much ready for this debate but I need a few strong statements supporting my claim that this was unconstitutional and so on. I also need some help predicting what the other team "pro Japenese internment camps" might say so I have counter attacks.

The opposition will say that (Like after 911)it was necessary to protect the U.S. form these "threats". The facts play out that the vast majority of Japanese americans were not a threat to the country. Another interesting question you might ask was why german americans were not interred like the Japanese.
 
i don't believe it was malevolent. in fact, it was to protect those japanese americans from feeling the wrath of the people, you know, like arab/muslim people probably felt after 9/11.
 
It was a war. If the government had reason to believe that these people were a threat, then they had a right to hold them. Not ALL Japanese Americans were held, were they? Were they release when the war was over?
 
Any time government turns into the "thought police," trouble results.

There's a fine line between "thinking" about crime, in this case helping an enemy because they belong to the same heritage, and actually "doing" a crime.
 
Do that *** spanking dance as part of your argument. See if you can make the pro side win. (in response to your 1st comment which is probably accurate.)
