Sorry for writing a novel

Please read all of this. This is a good dog but we should have caught this sooner and corrected it but this is one of our first dogs so we didn't catch it. She is afraid of bicycles

We are contacting our trainer on this issue but other advise might help we are out of our element here

Okay well she has never like bicycles when she was a puppy every time a bicycle would go by she would cower. Well we thought the more we exposed her to them the better and it helped it really did. but after we moved we moved to a complex where kids are always on there bikes and there are one or two kids in the complex that don't like dogs and my husband was walking her and this one girl waited until they were passing and tried to hit her with her bike. We are still very upset about this.

But currently we went for a walk yesterday on a public walking and bike riding trail. She has always done wonderful on this trail. but every time a bike came by kid or adult when she heard it coming she started shaking and as it passed by she started barking and jumping and well she looked downright agressive. Which she isn't.

One of the times I made the mistake of seeing a bike coming and I got down on her level and tried to distract her. big mistake because when the bike came by she freaked out and she didn't really bite me but her top teeth came down as she jumped and hit my arm and when she realized what happened she stepped back and laid down like she knew she did something wrong. Well THAT WAS COMPLETLEY ME FAULT I SHOULDN'T Have been in her face. She didn't leave a mark or anything. I wasn't mad at her.

What can I do though. She really is scared of these things. We have never dealt with a dog that had any fears or anything like that. She only does this when she sees a bike. And it seems the more we expose her to it the worse off she gets. On the trail you can't avoid it because these people speed right by you. Its a small trail but a good walk. I think its best we don't go on the trail for awhile and stick to the complex and park.

Anyways what would you suggest. I had been doing that thing where you get close to the object and treat every time she doesn't cower or pull away. But this is bad.

This is the only time she acts like this and I don't understand what to do. I'm out of my element. She is otherwise a perfect loving dog

Thanks in advance

Canine the kid who did this mom is the main leasing agent and manager of the complex

Time and patience pays off. Start a far distance from the bike. Have a friend neighboor drive by. Have the dog sitting and healing at this time and use a treat to keep the dogs attention and just keep doing what your doing.
