I've had lots of dogs in the past and they've always been trained not to do their business in the house very quickly. I always gave them a little smack on the butt straight after and put them outside, and it seemed to work.
I got a new puppy the other day. 3 months old. I've had him for just over 2 weeks now.
Im trying to do things the 'new' way that everyone seems to recommend nowadays(never give him a little whack, got him a crate, take him out when I think he needs to go and reward him when he does etc ) and it ain't working. If he needs to go, he goes on the floor, unless I'm able to spot his signs in time or if by sheer luck, he is already outside.
It's only been a few weeks, but i'm gonna go back to the 'tried and tested' methods pretty soon if things don't improve. It's not abuse in my eyes. Beating a dog and giving him a short spank on the butt when he does something wrong aren't the same thing.
Is all of this new stuff just a fad that doesn't work?
