My 1 year old Cocker Spaniel has been scratching like crazy lately. He has always scratched a lot. But lately he's been scratching at night insanely. He's whining and growling he's itching so bad. I gave him a bath yesterday with some medicated itch relief shampoo and some oatmeal conditioner and it hasn't changed anything. I checked him for fleas and found nothing. I do have him on Purina Dog Chow at the moment. But he's never had a problem (allergy) with this food before.
I know because I used to have him on really healthy, expensive food which he absolutely hated and he still itched.

He could just have allergies. My mothers dog always has allergies around this time of year and around spring time she has to get meds from the vet.

If your dog is whining he must be in pain, a visit to the vet is in order. If that cannot happen right away then you can do a few things at home...Give the dog some benadryl which is an antihistamine and also some fish oil like Yumega these two things will work internally to soothe the problem; then treat your home for fleas with Indorex; vacuum the space thoroughly.

Do something right away though it's not fair for your dog to be suffering like so, remember when you had the chickenpox and how painful that was now imagine that with no relief.
