My dog has been clawing at the fence like crazy to get out lately. Recently we put a new second latch on the inside to prevent him from getting out, but without us knowing he has found a way to jar the new lower one loose and apparently has been biting at it to try to open the fence because there's blood all over the latch, fence, and his chest. He let me open his mouth to check but not without whining. I saw blood but could not locate the wound. There was a lot of blood at the base of the fence, but definitely under 1/4 of an ounce. We just had to drop a lot of money on the kitty cat for her bronchitis and all the tests for other things that go along with it. We are not in a good place financially right now. What should we do?
Update! He doesn't get walks but has a pretty big back yard to run around and exercise in. We often see him chasing after any living thing that attempts to enter the yard. He also gets brought inside every night and gets playtime with his toys and is put to bed in his kennel. MORE IMPORTANTLY I checked his mouth again and noticed his right main canine tooth is significantly broke off. You can see it broke off enough to break where blood was supplied to it. I think this is where all of the blood came from and it has not been bleeding.
Forgot to mention he was neutered years ago
Also, he first wouldn't eat his hard food. We gave him some soft food and it was gone in 20 seconds. Right now he's eating his crunchy food again, but hasn't been his usual playful self. I'm worried he may be swallowing blood I don't know about making himself sick. And I don't know if our vet will let him squeeze in tomorrow. I don't feel right waiting till Monday. Should I take him to an animal emergency clinic if I can't get him in to one of the several vets around tomorrow or wait till Monday?
