My dog is a nine year old Jack Russell/ dachshund mix. He recently (about dec) had intestinal worms. We gave him some medication and it cleared up. Now he has this flaky scabs on his body that look a lot like when you have really bad dandruff. I picked them off and they're a little bloody underneath, but nothing too bad. He also won't stop itching! He chews on them a lot, but he's always chewed on himself more than normal and I had someone tell me that Jack Russells tend to have some kind of OCD about that, so I don't know it that's it. When the first scab came up I thought that he and my other dog (An Italian Grey hound/ Chihuahua mix) did it, because they tend to play rough. I don't know if it's mange and am worried about putting motor oil on it if it isn't, because I don't know what effect that would have. I've had some problems come up lately and as such don't have the money to tkae him to the vet. Has anyone had this prob before?
Yeah, I don't agree with the thyroid thing either. He has incredible energy for a nine year old dog. He keeps up with the Italian Grey Hound who is only a year and a half. And while he is a couple pound over weight I attribute that to my baby feeding him off her plate because she thinks it's funny. But I feed him Pro plan special dog food, because the other dog has a tender stomach, so it's not just cheap stuff from the Grocer. Could it still effect his stomach?
