Does your Wifi work internationally with TMO@Home?

I know some folks were experimenting on using the Wifi feature internationally and seeing if it was being added to the bill. I am taking a trip in September to Europe and want to see what my options are before I go. Any information from anyone who has tried this out will be appreciated!

I was told that tmobile will charge for UMA even if you are roaming otherwise you can get a SIM card from the country that you are going to just make sure your phone is unlocked or have the international roaming add on by TMO CS

How did you get charged for that? Going on a trip to Central Mexico and would like to make sure my peeps know I'm ok!!!!

Yep, it does work. It helps if you turn off the cell antenna, that should also prevent data roaming charges. Just be aware, not all access points will give you UMA due to firewall/port blocking.

I think Central Mexico is fine; I was pleasantly surprised to find wifi high up in the Peruian Andes. Also, the worse place to get wifi is Japan.

Cell antenna off or on, I don't have the Hotspot@home service; therefore, any UMA calls deduct minutes from my pool but I keep it off while traveling to avoid roaming charges.

My deal is that I have the "talk forever" plan with TMobile that allows unlimited use of the phone over any WiFi. With that plan, a TMO rep said that I will NOT be charged for phone or data use, but I needed to be careful because if I started on WiFi and it transferred to roaming I would then be charged. Therefore, when making calls on WiFi, I did as Krabme suggested and turned off my "mobile network" under Manage Connections to prevent issues. TMO did say that they don't "guarantee quality of calls" when using that system but I found phone calls from Italy to USA to be seamless. Also, be aware that calls TO a foreign number will be charged as if you were calling a foreign country from your home country. YOu need to make and receive calls to and from US based numbers to keep it free...
