I have a 5500 Sport and recently the phone started to get really slow (or it simply jammed) whenever I was sending an SMS. It just stuck in the "Sending message" phase.
Anyway, my friend told me a lot of the newer S60 Nokias have this problem and that Nokia have a fix available for it. It's a small .sis application called 'SMS Accelerator' and e.g. for 5500 it can be found here: http://europe.nokia.com/A4162331. The same application can be used for all S60 that have this problem and it won't do any harm if you haven't had this problem, so it's worth installing!
Anyway, if you want to check your phone's own support pages for this SMS Accelerator, go here http://europe.nokia.com/A4143002 and choose your model from the dropdown menu. If they offer SMS Accelerator for your phone, it should be under Phone Software -> General Software.
