Does your mind go BLANK when the doctor walks in?

Over the years, I have become almost professional at going to the doctor. At this writing I have seven Doctors that I am regularly seeing. Each has a different specialty, and each one needs my full attention.

Having questions ready:

I keep all my medications in a sturdy bottomed case, with a zipper around the top, which holds all the medications, a little notebook for notes, a pen, and before each visit, I make list of all the items in my notebook that pertain to that doctor, a list of questions to ask.

I also keep a record of blood pressure readings, hospital visits, medication changes, doctors phone numbers...etc. That kind of preparation makes the doctors job a little easier, with your life between visits at his fingertips. So the doctor has everything he needs to diagnose and treat

How do I remember what the Doctor said to me>

Recording the Doctors Appointment:

This last important office visit I had was with a doctor I had never seen before. She was giving me a second opinion, so I wanted to get her advise straight, and not confused with the previous doctors. I brought along a little mini-recorder, and with the doctors permission I recorded the whole thing. (Hint - Don't hold the recorder, set it down on a stable surface,). No one even remembered it was on until the appointment was over! When I listened to it later, I was so thankful I had done that, and now I will do it at every important appointment.

This system works well for me, and anyone with memory loss. I ahve had some strokes, so I have to go to lengths to remember to put my head on in the morning!:jester:

Good morning Writeleft

i want to thank you for passing on all these great tips you have discovered.

i never would have thought of the Recording..oh that would be so helpful for me also as i tend to be so forgetful when so much is being discussed for an appointment.

i have a doc of 30 plus years now retiring and i have been referred to a doc whom barely speaks english, i believe the recording would benefit me as i only speak english. i greatly appreciate you posting this wonderful idea for one to give a try with the recording. i never would have thought of this on my own...Thank you Much

My pleasure happy!

One thing I learned that I did not mention in the post was what I learned about my patient style. I noticed I might give too much information too fast, that I might need to slow down a little.

I am definitely going to use what I have learned on my next doctors visit. It will be another new doctor once again.

Thank you so much for your kidn words!
