Does your dog whine or bark to go out?

For those who have a dog that whines/barks or when you say "do you need to go potty/outside" they get really excited..... did they learn this on their own. My dog wont tell me when she needs to go out so I have to take her out every two hours. Dog door and bells are not an option. When we are outside I say go potty to hurry her up and it works and one time inside I said do you need to go potty and then she peed on the bed. So I ask her do you need to go out(side) while holding the leash and I wait for some type of reaction such as wiggling, whine, standing up, going to the door. Did your dog just learn over time to whine or bark or did you teach it to them?
We were on a schedule but my life isnt the same every day and play time varies,she usually has to pee or poo shortly after starting play and drinks a lot which causes odd peeing schedule later. If she is in her crate she whines to go. Also if she doesn't eat when I feed her that messes the schedule up. I feed her about 30 minutes after waking and I have tried adjusting that but sometimes she wont eat for hours after waking.


ALSO!!! I am asking did your dog learn ON ITS OWN or did YOU TEACH THEM. Please specify. =] Thanks.
 
they scratch at the door or near it...i trained them to do this...i would go to the door with them and say gotta go???? they would look all funny id take there paw and scratch the floor with a treat and open the door flipin out like greatttttttt good jobbbbbbb...it worked in two weeks....both breeds rottie and toy poodle
 
mine learnt over time, we have a routine, when I get up at night and turn the tv off, we go outside (as soon as I do it, he runs to the door) and first thing in the morning (after I go to the toilet lol) we go outside....and then a couple of times throughout the day. I suggest you get a routine going and your dog will learn and adapt :D
 
Mine is in a crate a lot. but when its jumpin in it (its really bigg) you know it wants to go out.

MY grandparents Shit-zu will come over to my grandad or me and wag its tail.
 
How old is your dog and how long have you had her for? If she's a puppy you may try to find other info, but if she's an adult that might help.

My dog was rescued only 3 weeks ago, but he was house trained fairly quickly. He doesn't bark or ask to be taken out (yet), but I found that having a strict schedule is the answer. You have to work with your dog and see what is best for her, but in my dog's case, he goes out first thing when I wake up, then at lunch time, at 5:30pm, then right before we go to sleep. That works wonderfully, but he doesn't poop unless he wants to, although he pees every time he gets to his favorite spot.

It seems that your dog associated a certain sentence with going to the bathroom, so use it only when you're outside. I also found that taking the dog directly to a specific spot every time works well together with a structured feeding schedule.

My dog wont bark or whine when he needs to go out. Instead, he just shakes, so when we notice he is shaking we let him outside. For some reason he will bark to come back in, just wont let us know when he has to go out.
 
my doggie just learned that to get our attention to go potty he has to bark. they just want to say "Hey i gotta go potty! so let me out before i pee allover the carpet!"

Eventually, your dog will have some way of telling you because it is potty trained from what you have said. Try putting your leash in a bowl by the door because this is what your dog sees every time he/she goes out. It worked for me because every time he has to go he just rattles his leash.
 
my dogs all figured it out themselves, but they do different things. one barks, one circles and gets a leash, and one sits next to any door (even closets) and looks upset.

how old is your dog? you said every two hours so i assume it's a puppy. if so, i would advise you to first make note of the times that she actually goes when you take her out. then look for any change at all in her behavior within a half-hour of that timeframe. it can be anything. excessive pacing, a guilty look, not wanting to play with toys, etc. obviously, you're dog is already trained to pee on command, so ou're not doing anything wrong if that's any consolation.

basically, once the dog learns that they're not supposed to pee in the house, they learn to tell you when they want out. think of kids. at first they just go in their diaper, but when they learn to use a potty, they start to tell you when they have to use it.
 
My dog paces around and looks at me, then walks to the back door, like he's trying to get me to follow him.
