I currently own a Scott Speedster S40 it weighs about 22lbs and I am looking to upgrade my bike does weight make that big of a difference? By the way I am 46 and about 15lbs overweight. I do love to ride and would like to be a little faster

The bike is of average weight for an entry level, the one I use is about the same weight. The extra weight helps you out doing down hills and not much difference on the level. You will notice the weight when climbing. You can spend a bunch of money to get a bike that weighs 5 lbs less or lose 5 lbs for free.

I took up riding to drop some weight and noticed a big difference by climbing hills. I got stronger and liter at the same time. I have a few more to go about 20 before I even think about needing a liter bike.

Play around with this calculator, it allows you to compare two rides side by side.
