Does Verizon subtract the $50 mail-in-rebate off of the first month's bill?

I just got my first cell phone bill from verizon (yikes!), and i need to know if they subtract the $50 mail-in-rebate from the bill or if it is just the full price and will send you back the $50 from the bill you paid?
