I recently bought smoked salmon at Trader Joe's I was just wondering if it is good to eat out of the packaging or if you need to prepare it?

Anytime ANY product says smoked it meanss it is ready for consumption. This insculdes ham, bacon (smoked), and other meats like pork chops etc.....

Marcus, when it says salmon is smoked in a way it's a process of cooking, if your package says or any package says "smoked" salmon well the answer is no you don't need to cook it. You can eat it out of the package if you wish. Sugar Pies suggestions of eating it is correct.

One of the popular is with bagels, toast the bagel or how it comes, spread cream cheese and top with slices of smoked salmon, now close the top, and eat your eart out.

There is one I stumbles on, and you should try. A baguette, slice it in half (Down the side) open, place under the grill till golden, take out of oven, on the base give a good spread of cream cheese (Philly), and on the top a light spread. On the base spread ripped romain lettuce, sprinkle capers a long the lenth of the baguette, top with slices of smoked salmon, replace the top, place a toothpick lets say every 4 inches, and cut between the toothpicks, place on a serving plate or dish, and there you have it a healthy snack.

Definitely do not need to cook it. Sometimes it can be too salty but you can give it a quick rinse under the faucet and pat it dry to help remove the saline solution it is packed in. I eat smoked salmon mainly in sushi with avocado and cream cheese and it is amazing.

1) it's smoked so all the microbes are dead
2) it's fish, so there's not too much raw fish can do to you (sushi)

I'd say it's good out of the package

usually smoked salmon is not cooked, no. just sliced thinly and served on sammies, bagels, toast, crackers, that sort of thing.

No, the smoking process cooks it thoroughly. You might want to warm it up, but most folks eat it right out of the package. Um - I do hope you use it as the base for a complete meal and not just snacking...
