Does this sound like allergies?

Hello, all. I'm a 26-year-old guy who, until now, has never felt like he's had an issue with allergies.

About a month ago, I started feeling sick. For a few days, I felt like I had the flu - stuffy nose, sore throat, chills, achy body, exhaustion. After a while, the major symptoms went away and what persists is a sore throat and stuffy nose. Some days the problem is worse than others. It feels like I have a lot of phlegm or bile stopped up in my throat that won't come out. I keep trying to dredge it up, but it won't come out. When I swallow it hurts. My nose is constantly runny. Occasionally I'll have a head ache. I've noticed that I tend to feel worse on sunny days. When it's grey and rainy, I still have the symptoms, but to a lesser degree.

Does this sound like anything anyone else has? I've never dealt with this before, so it's unsettling. Once my health insurance comes through, I plan to go to the doctor; but until then, I'm seeking out advice. Is there anything I can take? I've been using Claritin and it helps with the nasal congestion, but doesn't get rid of the sore throat.

Thanks.

Could be but the chills and achy feeling don't sound like it. You could try a decongestant along with the Claritin (Claritin D or just the "d" - sudafed - by itself).
Also, for the sore throat, if oyu gargle with warm salt water and it goes away, it's most likely allergies. If it doesn't, then it's most likely an infection.
