...drive...1O points!!!? I'm sorry for typing @, but my letter @ on this computer won't type @nd I don't h@ve @nother keybo@rd...@nyhow, i h@ve @n @ver@tec 37OO l@ptop which currently h@s no oper@ting system on it, @nd it seems th@t I need to delete @ single existing system p@rtition in order to inst@ll @n oper@ting system. However nothing I do will delete the system p@rtition, inste@d I @lw@ys get errors. I tried to run fdisk @nd it s@id "error @ccessing file setup" or something like th@t. I @lso tried @nd f@iled to delete the system p@rtition from two different windows xp inst@ll@tion disks.
Now I h@ve 2 questions. First question is I r@n 'fdisk /st@tusfree " @nd it indic@ted my h@rd drive c@p@city @nd the @mount of free sp@ce, which were equ@l, @nd the @mount of used sp@ce w@s simply listed @s " %" with no number. I @lso used @nother progr@m to @n@lyse my h@rd drive, @nd the progr@m indic@ted th@t my h@rd drive w@s @tt@ched to the computer but th@t it w@s in "secure lock" mode @nd could not be @ccessed. I @m hoping th@t this inform@tion me@ns th@t my h@rd drive is still good, but th@t I simply c@n't delete the p@rtition bec@use it is in "secure lock" mode. So my first question is, cn @nyone tell me for sure if my h@rd drive is still good? The progr@m I r@n did indic@te th@t my h@rd drive w@s @tt@ched, but th@t it could not be @ccessed bec@use it w@s in lock mode, @nd @lso running "fdisk /st@tus" does show the hd c@p@city. Does this me@n for sure th@t my h@rd drive is ok@y, or could it still be b@d?
Question 2: If my h@rd drive is for sure still good, then how do I unlock it so th@t I c@n possibly delete the system p@rtition [@s required to inst@ll @n oper@ting system]? Note th@t I did run "unlock c:" from @n @:\ prompt @nd @ d:\ prompt, but both times I got @ mess@ge th@t s@id "locking oper@tion f@iled". I @lso tried to run "lock c:" which g@ve me @ w@rning mess@ge, then it s@id "@re you sure? [y/n]?" I typed y @nd pushed enter, but it s@id "unlocking oper@tion f@iled". I @lso tried to use @ progr@m to unlock the hd, but with the progr@m I h@ve to unlock it using either the ,"user p@ssword" or "m@ster p@ssword".
i'm not sure how to get the "m@ster p@ssword," or if I'd even be @ble to successfully unlock the hd with it, bec@use I rec@ll th@t I w@s given the option to set @ user p@ssword but w@s still not @ble to unlock the hd with it. Nonetheless, if someone c@n tell me how to get the "m@ster p@ssword", or how else I c@n unlock the h@rd drive, then perh@ps i c@n try it @nyhow. Keep in mind th@t I @lre@dy tried @nd w@s un@ble to unlock the h@rd drive using the "lock/unlock c:" comm@nd.
I did try to inst@ll ubuntu, but it will not inst@ll either, I @ssume this @lso h@s to do with the p@rtition needing to be deleted.
