Does this actually happen in the military?

Are women excluded from what is considered 'hazardous' duties in the military?

I read that this was a persuasive essay topic, so I want to write one against it, if it actually happens. Also, I am considering joining the military, but it's still up in the air.
Also, do you think this is wrong to do, and support why you do or dont?
In your opinion, do you think that a military woman can't defend herself?
Is there a lot of sexism in the military?

From being a former Marine, the answer is yes and no. It is not that women are precluded from "hazardous" duties. There are many women serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other hostile areas. What women are precluded from are certain jobs in the Marines that are considered hazardous like infantry. There are a multitude of reasons like "Middle America is not ready to see women coming back in body bags", the large cost of having certain coed jobs, and the physical nature of certain jobs. I am not saying that women cannot perform the job duties, as some very much can, but many cannot. I am not saying I agree with it, but I do understand the rational.
