taking food out of my mouth? My employer, the one I work for between movie crew jobs, won't allow us to work past 40 hours because they have to pay overtime and they just won't allow it. Nobody seems to understand that I'd rather work past 40 hours in a week for NO OVERTIME and get that pay than to be stopped from working at that 40 hours. I'd be just as happy if they relaxed that overtime pay requirement and just let us work past the 40 hours.

All the union-yes crowd can do is yell "thank a union for your 40-hour work week." Well, thanks, guys. Thanks a fvcking lot.
When I'm choosing between groceries or some bill I have to pay, "taking food out of my mouth" is dangerously close to no longer a figure of speech.
Hey Rodger Dodger - Don't tell me. Tell the "union-yes" crowd. They're the ones who lobbied for that federal law. Please educate yourself before concocting what you think will be some kind of argument that will point out the questioner's stupidity.
Hey Solar - If you're giving me a paycheck, you're not taking advantage of me. What part of that is so fvcking lost on liberals?
 
It's not all the doing of unions, and only non-exempt hourly even get overtime pay, in California, at least. If you're exempt, and work overtime, if it's even authorised, you only get your normal hourly rate anyway.
 
Most people want to spend time with their loved ones and don't want to have to work so many hours a week with little pay. I highly doubt your lack of overtime makes you not able to afford food.
 
Unions don't think that workers are smart enough to make their own choices.

UNIONS DON'T VALUE WORKERS. THEY VALUE POWER.
 
You do understand that a 40 hour work week is not a union rule, right? It's a federal law. That's because with no such regulation your employer could force you to work 50, 60, 80 hours a week and fire you if you refuse.
 
Congratulations, you too are trying to help us achieve that coveted THIRD WORLD STATUS, where we will have lots of low paying 60 hour a week jobs because of people like you. Go get another stinking job.
 
Who is stopping you from getting another job?

I guess you would prefer pre-union America conditions so you could earn half as much and be forced to work those extra hours you want.

Americans already work more, earn less, receive fewer benefits, have worse health care, and have a lower standard of living than every other industrialized western nation.

If anyone is taking food out of your mouth - it is you and people like you.

I am salaried and, so, receive neither regular or overtime pay for the hours > 40 that I put in every week.
 
It is management that is restricting your hours not the union. They don't want to pay overtime. So, some other guy does your job until he/she works their forty. Get rid of the union and now you and that other person are competing for hours and the one who will work for less will work the longer.
