does the processor (ghz) affect the speed of the pc game? (NBA 2k9)?

i got amd x64 dualcore 1.9ghz and i feel that this affect maximizing the details of my nba 2k9 like turning the player detail to ultra high but some of my games like far cry, prototype, fear2 runs smoothly in high details...do u think i have to try to fix something or do i need to upgrade my processor?
 
GHz simply determines how fast and lag-free your game will run.

Since GHz is hardware and not software, the only way to upgrade it is by replacing it.
