Does the p90x work with my body type and work out history?

So I've researched and watched the program on tv about this system toning up and losing weight. It sounds pretty solid if you have the discipline to do so, but not 100% sure if it'll work for me.

I'm 143 pounds at 5'7" and when things don't seem to work after a month or so with more impressive results then 2 pounds i dump it. An hour a day i think i could handle once i can afford this product, and all the required equiptment for it, but i'm extremely unfit. On the show i saw that everyone used to be an athlete or a marine, then got fat and lazy then started the program. I was never an athlete and i've never had the self discipline to keep up with routine excersize. I'd rather do things from home so this program sounds great because i don't have to leave my home to embarrass myself on a treadmill or gym equiptment (which is one reason i tend to stop going).

Now my body is in now way working for me. I know some girls my height and weight who look fabulous, but for me everything hangs out. Love handles, back, all that jazz. I can barely do 3 push ups with my feet... and full sit ups... i can do a couple.

It's pretty sad and i'm a little embarrased to mention it, but if this program can work out for me... being so unfit and slightly overweight, that'd be fantastic, if not then it's back to my healthy eating and stretching which results in maybe a pound a month.
