Does the old Ducati Cagiva mito 125 look identical to the ducati 748 for a reason?

Why do they look almost identical? haha i've always thought this, to the even slightly untrained eye they are almost exactly the same bike. i know this is a stupid question but did they make the mito as a kind of learner's next best thing to a 748 or something?

also why is it a ducati CAGIVA mito? is cagiva a type of engine like desmosedici?

i know this question is a bit random but i just want to ask all the questions about bikes i can and get all this sort of stuff off my chest

Well it's only called the Cagiva Mito, drop the Ducati name. Cagiva is a small Italian company that is owned by Ducati.

The bikes are modelled on the Ducati 748 because that bike is very very sexy =P

I think that the Cagiva Mito is a very nice looking learner legal bike. Possibly the nicest looking 125cc bike ever!!

EDIT:
The Ducati 748, 916 and 998 all look the same as each other.
The Cagiva Mito 125 is designed to look like all of the bikes I've named.
