Does the Nexus One need to be charged twice a day?

Does the Nexus One need to be charged twice a day?

I had the G1, MyTouch 3G, and the Motorola Cliq. I rarely used it and for some odd reason the battery life was awful. I am guessing anything Android related is a battery hog.

My device would be fully charged at 8am, but by 11:30am the batter would be 80% gone and the blinking light would go off. This happens only after a few text messages and light web browsing. Plus, synchronization is turned off.

Can someone tell me if the new NExus One has awful battery life like all other Android devices? I hate charging that darn phone 2 times everyday just so it can make it past 8pm.

I am a pretty heavy user and keep the brightness on full and I can get through just about from 6am to 1-2am, as constellation said significant improvement over the G1 and other android devices I can last 1 charge on the N1 what my G1 went through 3

God, I can't wait to upgrade my phone. My G1 is ALWAYS attached to some sort of power supply just so I can keep it alive throughout the day. It helps that I work with computers, user computers in school, and am able to charge my phone while listening to music in my car, but its still annoying.

You N1 bastards make me more and more jealous everyday.

Much Much better than my G1.. much better.

I also turn off and back on my phone every 3 days or so like you'd do with a PC.. and I also use a Task Manager like TasKiller extensively.. that helps more than most people think.

Thanks 4 everyones feedback. I feel the Android OS is soooo poorly designed sometimes & just a battery hog.

I also hate their email setup & IM. It will never be as good as a blackberry.

I never get the emails instantaneously and sometimes when i go in & hit refresh it still doesnt work. I remember once i sent an email from my desktop 2 the phone 2 see how fast it would arrive and it took over 24 hours before i got it. It was insane. I dunno whats up with Android. The OS is not as top notch as a Blackberry.

I think synchronization has 2 be turned on 2 enjoy email instantly, but that in turn kills the batter.

Also sync has to be turned on 4 IM which is a mess. Every other phone i have, i sign in and chat. The IMs that are built into the Android phones are so poorly designed. WHYYY!!!!???

Also, with the last update is there multi touch on the new virtual keyboard? I hate the MyTouch 3G keyboard because it could only handle 1 letter at a time.

I have a ION and I am a HEAVY user, 300+ megs a day of download transfer, plus email, sms, mms, qik... My battery lasts about 20 hours. Only have had delayed emails once when Google decided to crash last year.

You using a task killer of some sort? I use Task killer free and Automatic Task Killer. That right there saves tons of battery. Battery Left widget will give me 6 hours with all the startup background apps. After the Task Killers do their job, it goes up over 20 hours.

Is it a problem with the OS or is it the fact we are carrying a mini computer around with us?

My blackberry toting buddy used to give me crap all the time that I had to keep my G1 plugged in all the time. And he was right, to an extent, but think about what the phone is capable of. Once I did, I didn't mind so much.

Having said that, the N1 is significantly improved over the G1. I don't believe all the nonsense from people saying they go days without charging. Those people simply aren't using their phones. I consider myself a power user - I watch movies on it, play audio books, stream talk radio, and use GPS during my jogs to track my distance (along with bluetooth to stream music). So with everything I do, PLUS the fact it's packing a 1ghz processor, PLUS the fact it's noticeably better than the G1 on battery life, I'm completely okay charging the thing twice a day (and that is about how often I charge it). Oh, it also charges significantly faster than the G1.

It is easy to get a full day out of the N1 without too much effort. I have sync turned on, AGPS too, although Bluetooth is off. In the UK with Vodafone the 3G is widely available where I live, work and play (that is not always the case) and so switching to and from 2G rarely happens for me.

Very occasionally I'll get down to around 50% in the day and will charge it up from my work's PC. It is far kinder to Li-Ion batteries to keep them topped up than to let them deep (full cycle) discharge. They'll last a whole lot longer if kept topped up with "opportunity charges" than being put through some two-day marathon.

I also have an ageing G1 that quite happily lasts a working day without needing a top up. The battery still has over 80% of its original capacity which is reasonable for a 2 year old handset kept to a good charging regime.

All you'll ever want or need to know about battery tech and how to keep it going can be read up on at http://batteryuniversity.com - check out Part Two "Getting the most from your batteries" where you'll find the best advice on how to take care of your next battery/handset

Everyone i know with an Android device either charges twice a day or brings there charger with them everywhere they go.

I hope the Nexus One doesnt have these issues.

I am a power user also, but it should last from 8am to at least midnight the same day, but it doesnt.

It is the way with modern day smartphones (!). It isn't just Android.

Opportunity charging is good for the battery, it reduces the number of full charge cycles and increases its likely life. Running Lithium battery tech down to complete discharge is not good for them in the long run. So it makes good economic sense to have a means of charging at work or in the car, even if it is to partially top up the charge.

Battery University is a good source of info on how to optimise the life of batteries.

The Nexus One battery life is vastly improved over the G1, but I find it to be a little worse than the MyTouch 3G. I can get a full day out of my Nexus with no problems, but my MyTouch was awesome! I could go at least 2 days with fairly heavy use with the MyTouch without it dying.

Of the phones I've owned in the past, the MyTouch had the best battery life of any of them. That includes both my Blackberries. The nexus for me has about 80% of the battery life the MyTouch had with the same amount of use.
